DISCOVER OUR STORY →Three interconnected priorities guide how STCOA approaches this work and collaborates with families and partners.
01Create opportunities for supportive conversations and connections with appropriate recovery resources.
02Help loved ones find information, understand referral options and build a support network.
03Connect people with licensed treatment, crisis and other services when appropriate and available.
Community-centered service begins with listening, respect and the belief that cultural identity is a source of strength.

Recovery journeys are personal. STCOA can be a starting point for conversations about peer support and connections to appropriate qualified providers.
Recovery can involve personal, family and community support over time. STCOA’s focus is on reducing isolation, encouraging respectful conversations and helping people identify appropriate resources.
01Peer support draws on lived experience and mutual understanding, while licensed clinical treatment is provided by appropriately qualified professionals. These roles are different and should not be confused.
02Family members may also need information about healthy boundaries, communication and where to seek help. Community education and referral navigation can support families as they explore available options.
03Culturally responsive approaches recognize the importance of belonging, identity, family relationships and respect. No single pathway works for everyone, and participation should be guided by individual needs and preferences.
04Where professional assessment, withdrawal management or treatment is needed, qualified medical or behavioral health providers are the appropriate resource. This website does not offer diagnosis, treatment or crisis response.
05Contact STCOA to ask which peer activities, educational resources or referral relationships are currently available. In an immediate emergency, call emergency services.
